First test for World Bank board's new accountability powers

Devex has published an article on the World Bank Board’s role in judging the IFC’s accountability for harms suffered by communities in Guatemala, affected by the Santa Cruz Barillas hydropower project.

The article quotes Recourse Co-Director Kate Geary, “If the board is going to be involved in difficult cases, then it really needs to think through its role … [which] should be to ensure IFC is held responsible for its own performance standards, learns lessons to stop breaches happening again, and offers remedy to harmed communities”.
